Cafe Luis
Olejarna 2, 80-843 Gdańsk, Poland
Highlights:
Named after the owner's dog, there's a good chance you'll meet him when you visit. The café is tucked into a former boiler room, one of those Gdańsk courtyards you'd never find unless someone pointed you to it. Upstairs is the café. Downstairs is an art gallery. The whole place radiates a kind of creative, unhurried energy.
Their cakes are vegan and homemade (the rhubarb cake and cherry pie show up in every review), and they make their own tonic and cold brew. The interior is small and warm, filled with art and light. People describe the atmosphere as "positive," which sounds vague until you're sitting there and realize it's just a place that makes you want to stay. If you're in Gdańsk and tired of the tourist-facing spots along the Motława, this is the antidote.
